HOW IT HAS BECOME A MASS MOVEMENT
Nations that celebrate together
bond together and therefore the
role of festivals in acting as a glue
that binds the country cannot be
missed. National festivals such as
Independence Day and Republic
Day play a huge role in reminding
us of the travails, struggles and
sacrifices that our forefathers
had to undergo to overthrow
British colonialism and forge a
G Kishan Reddy new paradigm of governance.
Our independence is a festival of
Minister for Culture, Tourism and
Development of North Eastern
Region of India
The spirit of Bharat is expressed
throughout the year in our
festivals. Enthusiastic celebrations
of gods and goddesses, saints
and prophets, history, culture
and the advent of new seasons
occur almost daily throughout
the country. From harvesting to
plantation, everyone takes part in
these colourful festivities and one
can witness the vitality of India as
it embraces the traditions of its
fascinating past. Although most
Indian festivals are often region
specific, the message that they
invariably convey is universal and
this clearly distinguishes Indian
festivals from those in the rest of
the world.
